Hey everyone! I'm in the process of upgrading several Dell PowerEdge R740 and R760 servers and I want to use the Lifecycle Controller to fetch updates directly from Dell's online repositories. Here's the step-by-step I'm following: I reboot, hit **F10** for the Lifecycle Controller, choose **Firmware Update**, then go for **Update from Network**. The issue is that when I configure the network settings—setting a static **IPv4** address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS—I keep getting the message: **'Network cable is not connected.'** Since I'm not on-site, I can't check the cabling myself. So, my main question is: Which physical port does the Lifecycle Controller use for Internet access? Does it use the same port as the **iDRAC** if that dedicated port is cabled, or should I use the **shared LOM** port instead? Also, I'm confused about identifying which ports are considered 'Shared LOM' for these models. Can anyone help me out with that? Thanks!

You definitely need to connect it using one of the LOM ports. The Lifecycle Controller won't work with the iDRAC dedicated interface. You can find the physical numbers on the chassis to identify the LOM ports.
Have you thought about using Dell OpenManage Enterprise for doing updates? It connects via iDRAC, but it requires a virtualization platform. This way you can stage and apply updates more centrally rather than doing it on each server. Just a thought!

Thanks for the heads up! Unfortunately, I've got a bunch of VMware clusters, so I really have to update them one at a time. Shutting down more than one host per cluster isn't an option for me. Appreciate the suggestion though!
