Which SSD is a better pick: Kingston A400 960GB or Crucial BX500 1TB?

Hey everyone, I'm looking to upgrade my storage. Currently, I have a 480GB Kingston A400 SSD in my PC, which still has about 86% health after 4.5 years. However, I've filled it up and need a new one. My motherboard doesn't support M.2, so I have to stick with SATA. I'm considering either the Kingston A400 960GB for around $65 or the Crucial BX500 1TB for about $77. I know that both SSDs don't have DRAM, but that doesn't bother me since my computer use is mainly basic internet surfing and some light gaming. Which SSD would be the better choice for my needs? Thanks in advance!

I personally had both Kingston and Crucial SATA SSDs in the past, and they both performed well. If it were me, I’d probably lean towards the Crucial, especially since it’s a newer model.

I'd recommend going with the Crucial BX500. From what I've heard, Kingston has had some reliability issues lately, and Crucial generally has a better reputation in that regard.

Honestly, I would consider looking for other drives with better TLC flash instead. Kingston's A400 model has changed its components, and the current version might not perform like your old one. I suggest checking out options like the Verbatim Vi550 or Adata Ultimate SU650.

Interesting. I thought the Kingston A400 uses 64-layer TLC flash. Is that still the case?

Go for the Crucial! The A400 has had multiple iterations, and some of the more recent ones can be slower than HDDs. With Crucial, you’re likely to get more consistent performance.
