Why Am I Not Seeing Much Improvement After Upgrading to a 5090?

Hey everyone! I've recently upgraded my gaming setup from a 4070 Super with 32GB of RAM and an i7-14700KF processor to a 5090 with 64GB of RAM and an Ultra 9 285K CPU. I'm gaming at 1440p, but I haven't noticed a significant difference in performance. For example, in Arc Raiders, my frame rates only increased from around 70 FPS to approximately 95 FPS. Similarly, Battlefield didn't display much of an upgrade either. Is there something I should investigate to figure out if there's a bottleneck or other performance issues affecting my system?

To troubleshoot, drop your resolution to 720p and see if your FPS increases significantly. If it does, you know your GPU is the bottleneck. If not, there's likely a CPU issue. Also, you may want to consider upgrading your motherboard if you're making a switch to AMD for better gaming performance.

Sounds like a solid plan! Just make sure you’re using enough power to support that 5090.

Honestly, it sounds like you might have a CPU bottleneck. Going for the Ultra 9 285K was a questionable choice for a gaming rig. You should expect much better performance from your 5090, especially in 1440p. Try checking your CPU and GPU usage during gaming. If your GPU usage is low, your CPU is likely holding things back. Also, make sure you’ve got the latest drivers installed for everything; they can make a huge difference.

Yeah, and consider switching to a better CPU like the 9800X3D for gaming. That should help boost your performance!

I think you've got to evaluate your system setup. The 5090 is a powerful card, but it pairs best with a high-end CPU. You mentioned you switched to the Ultra 9 285K, but a more capable CPU like the 9800X3D would help you get the performance you should be seeing. It’s worth checking if there are any thermal issues too; overheating can throttle performance.

Definitely check your cooling and make sure nothing is overheating! Your current system should be able to handle 1440p without any issues.

You seem to have made some questionable choices with that CPU upgrade. The 14th gen Intel chips don’t seem to perform as well as the previous ones in gaming. If you can, returning that CPU and motherboard for something more suited for gaming, like sticking with Intel’s previous gen or switching to AMD, might save you from issues down the line.

If you've got the time, swapping parts around could be worth it. Don't forget to ensure that your BIOS is updated too!
