Why Are My Headphones Only Playing in One Ear?

I've got a pair of JBL TUNE 770NC headphones that I received as a gift for Christmas. Unfortunately, they fell out of my bag from about 3 feet up, and ever since then, they only play audio in the left ear. I tested them with both my laptop and my phone to rule out any audio source issues, but I still only get sound on one side. I've also tried turning them off and on again, but that didn't help either. Since they only play in one ear even when they're connected, I'm worried it might be a hardware problem. I'm really sad about this because I love these headphones. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for taking the time to read this!

If your headphones are wireless, try forgetting the device and re-pairing them. If they’re wired, try using a different audio port. If none of that works, it’s most likely that they’re broken since you mentioned the drop.

It sounds like you may have broken a connection on the right side. If you're comfortable with it, you could try to repair them if you know someone who can solder. Otherwise, it might be worth just getting a replacement if you're worried about damaging them further.

If you got the headphones about six months ago, it might be a good idea to ask the person who gifted them to you if they have a warranty. Most come with at least a year of coverage, and that might save you!

It’s likely they’re physically damaged if they were dropped. There’s a chance they can be repaired, but you would definitely need to know how to solder. Good luck!

You might want to check out this video for a quick fix: https://youtu.be/C4yhkqTVB8Y?si=Jm33bJkeW1IM8MBB. If that doesn’t work, consider opening them up; it’s pretty straightforward if you find a good tutorial.

I had a similar issue with my wife's JBL earbuds right after we got them, and the guy at the store said it’s a common problem. If they don't work out for you, returning them might be the best option.
