Why Are My Intel I9-9900K Temperatures So High Even After Disabling Turbo Boost?

I've been using my Intel i9-9900K for a few years now, but I've always had to disable the turbo boost because the temperatures are insane. Even at 3.6 GHz, my CPU temperatures range from 40 to 70°C. I'm using an NZXT Kraken x62 cooler and I have a Gigabyte RTX 2060 with three fans in an NZXT H500i case.

Recently, I reapplied thermal paste—something I've done before when I first got the rig, but the high temps have persisted. I also experimented with voltage settings without much luck, and now I'm just running at stock speeds with turbo off.

Enabling turbo makes the temps go crazy; the CPU idles at 70°C and can hit 105°C while gaming, which leads to throttling. I'm starting to wonder if my H500i case could be part of the problem, as it does feel a bit hot to the touch. Any thoughts?

How much power does your CPU draw at that "idle" state of 70°C? It helps to know your ambient temps too. Just curious, what's your setup like in terms of airflow?

Hey,

HWMonitor reports that my CPU draws about 10-15W at idle, and my ambient temperature is around 20°C.
