Hey everyone! I've been trying to clear up some space on my phone since I'm out of storage, and I've started syncing my photos to iCloud with a 200 GB plan. My phone has 256 GB, but it's all filled up with photos and videos. Now I've synced quite a bit to iCloud, but I'm still seeing that I have over 253 GB occupied. Can someone explain why my photos and videos still seem to take up space even though they are in iCloud? I'm really hoping to free up some storage here!

One thing to keep in mind, especially if you're not seeing the expected space being freed up, is that photos sync in real-time, but they don't get removed from your phone automatically just because you uploaded them. It’s all about how you configure iCloud settings!
It sounds like you're using iCloud Photos, but remember that syncing doesn’t automatically delete files from your device. You need to enable the setting that allows your phone to optimize storage. If it's on, your full-resolution photos are stored in iCloud, and only smaller versions stay on your device. Otherwise, they’ll keep taking up space on your phone! Check those settings to optimize your storage!
So here's the deal: iCloud is designed to keep your photos synced across all your devices. If you delete photos from your phone, they will also be removed from iCloud unless you have a setting changed. Make sure to look at the optimization settings and understand how syncing works. You might be able to free up more space if you adjust those!
