I've noticed that the games I run on Steam are performing poorly, whereas other games like Minecraft run just fine. I'm looking for solutions to speed up my Steam gaming experience. Here are my specs: AMD R5 5600x, 32GB RAM, and an RTX 3050 with 8GB. I've already tried reinstalling Debian, reinstalling my drivers and OpenGL, and even switching to Wayland, but nothing seems to improve the situation. Any ideas?

Have you tried switching the version of Proton you're using? I found that using Proton Experimental tends to yield better results for some games, although it can introduce other issues since it is still experimental.

Have you considered switching to a Linux distro that includes more recent kernels and GPU drivers? Sometimes, older versions can be the bottleneck for gaming performance.

Why are you sticking with Debian for gaming? A lot of users recommend switching to Mint or Ubuntu since they are more up-to-date and designed for a better gaming experience.

You should provide more details. Can you run `nvidia-smi` and share the output? Also, how did you go about reinstalling the drivers and OpenGL? And what kernel version are you currently using? Oh, and what desktop environment are you on? It could help many of us assist you better!

You might want to try using Kubuntu 25.04. It's built on Ubuntu, which is based on Debian, but it has newer kernels and better Mesa support, making it more suited for gaming.

I really think trying out a rolling release could benefit you. Since gaming relies heavily on up-to-date drivers, a rolling distro might be the answer you need!
