Why are there multiple folders in my ‘Users’ directory on my PC?

Hey everyone! This is my first time posting, and I'm not super tech-savvy, so I appreciate your help! I have a personal PC that I've been using by myself for a long time. Recently, I checked the 'Users' folder in my Local Disk (C:) and noticed there are several other folders in there with different names — it looks like there are user accounts that aren't mine. Is this normal? And if it's not, how can I clean it up properly? Thanks a lot for your assistance!

It's actually not uncommon to find multiple folders in the 'Users' directory, even on a personal PC. Sometimes, programs create user profiles or settings folders that end up there. Most of the time, you can safely delete any folders that don't correspond to your actual account, but just be careful about which ones you choose.

Yeah, exactly! Just make sure to back up anything important first, just in case you accidentally remove something you didn't mean to!

If you're unsure about deleting those folders, a good first step is to check if they're indeed tied to any user accounts you no longer use. You can do this by looking at the folder properties or just researching any unfamiliar names you find.

Also, if you see folders for software like 'Guest' or 'Default', those are usually safe to leave alone. But if you find names that you definitely don't recognize, those could be cleaned up.
