Why Aren’t My Monitors Playing Audio Anymore?

I've got two monitors—an AOC connected via HDMI and an Asus connected through DisplayPort—paired with my AMD Radeon 7900 GRE graphics card. They used to output sound through their native speakers, but now I can't find the option to select them as audio outputs. I haven't noticed exactly when this change occurred since I've been using Bluetooth headphones for a while, but I suspect it has something to do with recent updates or settings.

I've checked both cables and they're working fine, plus I've verified that the monitor volumes aren't muted in the settings. The ASUS monitor works great for audio with my Switch (using HDMI), so I know it can output sound.

I've done everything I could find: uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, checked for updates, and pretty much tried everything that seemed relevant. CCleaner says my AMD Audio Device driver needs updating, but the AMD software says everything's up-to-date. I've also made sure to shut down my PC, checked for Windows updates (though I'm on Windows 10, so no more major updates), and unplugged everything to restart.

Given that both monitors are from different brands and using different sources, I suspect there might be an issue with the PC itself, especially since the GPU is relatively new and worked fine a few months ago. Let me know if you need any more details. Thanks in advance for any help!

It sounds like your AOC monitor has a headphone port that could be helpful. Have you tried plugging in headphones directly to the monitor? Also, some monitors have a separate option for selecting audio outputs in their on-screen menu, so double-check that too!

I didn’t realize there’s an option in the monitor menu. Mine doesn’t seem to work as expected, even though I used to get sound through HDMI, so I'm really scratching my head here.

Have you checked the output settings in Windows? Sometimes it might not automatically switch back to the monitors when you unplug Bluetooth devices. It’s a common glitch, but if they don’t show up as available options, it sounds like something might be off with your audio drivers.

I can't even change the output at all! When my Bluetooth headphones are disconnected, it just takes me to the Windows FAQ, and there's no way to select the monitors. It feels like a software issue for sure.
