Why Aren’t My Old Apps Showing Up After Installing Windows 11?

I recently upgraded my CPU, motherboard, and RAM and decided to do a fresh install of Windows 11 on a new m.2 drive. After setting everything up, I connected my old drives only to find that while I can access them in File Explorer, the installed apps are not showing up in the Start menu search or the apps list in Settings. How can I get my new boot drive to read the installed apps on my old drives? Any help would be appreciated!

When you do a clean install and switch drives around, sometimes the system can't automatically link to programs installed on old drives. You might need to reinstall the apps so that they register on your new OS. If you want to keep your settings or files related to those apps, check their folders on your old drives before reinstalling to back up any important data.

Thanks for the tip! I guess I need to figure out which programs I need to reinstall. Do you have any suggestions on how to prevent this issue in the future?

It sounds like you might need to adjust some settings for your apps. If you installed programs from a web browser, you usually get an option to choose where to install them during setup. For apps from the Microsoft Store, you need to set which drive to store apps in your settings. Also, if you're trying to access previously installed programs, you may need to change the target path for where Windows looks for apps. It might help to reinstall those apps if they were installed on your old drives. Let me know if you need more details!

Got it, but I'm more concerned about accessing the programs that are already installed. If I need to reinstall them, will they work fine with the new boot drive?
