I just built a PC for a friend, and I'm having a bit of trouble with the case fans. They're being detected in the BIOS, where I can see their RPMs just fine, but when I try using software like MSI Afterburner, they're not showing up at all. I've confirmed that the fan hub isn't faulty, and I even connected each fan to its own port. I've read that MSI Center can sometimes mess with detection, and since we're using an MSI motherboard, I'm wondering if that's a factor. I did switch the power output setting from DC to PWM in BIOS and enabled monitoring settings, but I'm not able to check the exact details right now. Any idea what might be going wrong?

If the BIOS can see the fans, that's a good sign they are working as intended. Just a heads up, MSI Afterburner mostly focuses on GPU fans, so it's normal not to see your case fans there. You might want to try using a different fan control software, like Fan Control (it's free on GitHub), or you could just let the motherboard manage them through BIOS. That usually works pretty well.
I get your frustration, but honestly, the BIOS doesn't always handle fan control very well. I had a similar issue in the past. If your friend's temps are getting up to 60+ while running games, that might be concerning. My setup with a 2080 Super stays in the mid-40s at 1440p, so I wonder if it's more of a cooling issue overall. Maybe check the airflow or consider some better cooling options.
