Why Aren’t My Spliced Fans Spinning Correctly?

I've spliced together two 140mm fans into one connector and plugged them into a regular fan header on my motherboard. At first, both fans start spinning, but soon one of them slows down and stops while the other keeps going. I feel like I did a good job stripping and connecting the wires, and I even used heat shrink to cover them. Is it possible they aren't getting enough voltage from a single header, or did I mess something up? Is there a way to tweak settings in the BIOS to fix this issue? I'm planning to toss these fans soon anyway, but I'm curious to know what went wrong.

Have you considered using a fan header splitter instead of splicing? Splicing can lead to issues. When you connected the fans, did you solder or just twist the wires together? Also, are both fans identical? One could be PWM while the other might not be, which could cause problems. Unfortunately, there’s not much to adjust in the BIOS that would help here; it’s likely a hardware limitation.

Both fans are the same. I spliced them since I needed a quick fix for just a few days, and I just twisted the wires together. It starts fine but one slows down after a bit. If it’s a hardware issue, why does it spin initially?
