Why aren’t my USB ports working on my Windows laptop anymore?

I went to bed last night with everything working fine on my laptop. But when I woke up and turned it back on, my keyboard and mouse that I connect via USB aren't working anymore. The keyboard lights up when I plug it in, so it seems like it's getting power, but I can't get it to respond. I've already tried restarting the laptop and updating Windows, but nothing has changed. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

If they're not showing up under keyboards or mice, they might be misclassified. Look under 'Universal Serial Bus controllers' in Device Manager too. Sometimes they can be found there if there's a problem.

Have you checked the Device Manager? Sometimes, the device might not show up because of driver issues. Just right-click on the Start button, select Device Manager, and look for your USB devices there.
