Why Can I Only Launch Nautilus from the Terminal?

I've been experiencing a strange issue after upgrading to Ubuntu 25.10. Nautilus, my file manager, will exclusively launch from the terminal. It doesn't open from the dock or the applications menu, but once I start it from the terminal, everything works fine, and I can open new windows and right-click options like normal. I've tried reinstalling Nautilus and checked the configuration files, but nothing seems to be wrong. Any ideas on why this might be happening? It occurs even when I'm logged in via RDP. I did finally restart my system after some hesitation, and now Nautilus opens from the icons again! Still curious about the original issue though.

Glad to hear that restarting fixed the issue! Sometimes things just need a reset to clear out odd behaviors. If it happens again, maybe you could try checking the logs or even restoring default settings for Nautilus to see if that pinpoints the problem.

It sounds like a weird glitch! To clarify, when you run Nautilus from the terminal, are you using the command `nautilus`? Have you tried using `xdg-open /path/to/nautilus.desktop` to see if that yields any different results? That could help determine if there’s an issue with the desktop file itself.
