Why Can’t I Boot with EXPO Enabled on My New Build?

I'm facing a frustrating issue with my new PC build using an ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming WiFi motherboard and an AMD 9950x3d processor. I've got Corsair Vengeance 4x 32GB 6000 CL 30 RAM, and I've started encountering problems when trying to boot with EXPO enabled. Initially, I got an error code 15 and started troubleshooting by reseating the RAM, but then things got more complicated. After enabling EXPO and trying to optimize boot times with Memory Context Restore (MCR) and Power Down Enable (PDE), my system displayed a C5 error code and would only boot in safe mode. Disabling EXPO allows the system to boot fine, but I want to utilize the RAM's potential with EXPO. I've cleared the CMOS multiple times, but the issue persists. What could be causing this boot failure when EXPO is enabled?

Using all 4 memory slots often results in lower stability, especially at higher speeds. When you enable EXPO, it ignores the JEDEC tables which are designed for better compatibility. I'd recommend checking the QVL list for your motherboard to see which 4-DIMM configurations are officially supported. It can make a big difference!

If you want to run all 4 sticks at high speeds, it's definitely a challenge. Make sure you're on the latest BIOS version, as manufacturers frequently release updates for better memory support. That said, running 4 sticks at high frequencies can sometimes require a bit of luck with the IMC (Integrated Memory Controller).

Running 4 DIMMs at 6000 MHz can be really tricky! The memory controller can struggle with high speeds when all slots are filled, leading to instability and boot failures. You might want to consider using only 2 sticks instead if you want better reliability with EXPO. Alternatively, if you stick with 4 DIMMs, lowering the speed might help your system boot more consistently.

DDR5 RAM, like in your case, doesn't typically play well with 4 sticks at high speeds. If you're set on using all four, try raising the voltage after enabling EXPO; that can sometimes stabilize the situation.

Your 9950x3d officially supports only up to 2 sticks at 5600 MHz and 4 sticks at 3600 MHz. Since you're trying to run at 6000, chances are you won't get stable results with 4 sticks unless you drop the speed. Just a heads up!
