I just got a computer case that has four fans connected to a fan controller board. These fans are 3-pin and are hooked up directly to the power supply, meaning they're running at max speed all the time. I wanted to connect them to the motherboard so I could adjust the fan speeds through the BIOS. However, it seems like MSI has changed the pin notches, which prevents me from plugging them into the motherboard. Is this a design choice by MSI, or did I just not fit them in correctly?

Fan headers have been pretty standard for a long time, like since the Pentium II days. Can you post a picture of your fan connectors and the motherboard headers? That would make it easier to diagnose what’s going on.
Usually, fan headers aren’t proprietary. They’re generally designed to fit all standard connectors. Maybe your pins are bent? It wouldn’t hurt to check that.
