I'm having trouble connecting my PC directly to my router using an Ethernet cable. It seems to work fine when I connect through my WiFi extender, which is plugged into the router. Does anyone know why that might be?

Are you asking if it works with a wired connection through the extender or just on WiFi? Clarifying that could help narrow down the issue.
Try removing the Ethernet card from Device Manager and then restart your PC. Windows should reinstall the card automatically, which can sometimes solve connection issues.
You might need to configure the Ethernet connection through your router's interface. Depending on your router, you usually log in with 'admin' as the username. The password could be 'admin' or 'password.' Make sure that the Ethernet ports are enabled. You can access the control panel through a browser or an app, just refer to the manual for your specific router model.
That's true! Usually, the router ports shouldn't need to be enabled, but there might be exceptions. Ensure you're not plugging the Ethernet cable into the WAN port instead of a LAN port.
It could be that you need to install a driver for your Ethernet port to work properly. Sometimes, the ports won't function until the right drivers are installed, so check if you have the latest drivers for your network adapter.
Valid point! But I've set up tons of consumer routers, and as far as I know, the Ethernet ports are typically active by default. Just double-check your connections.
