I recently got an iPod Touch for my birthday since I'm a fan of vintage tech. However, I'm having a tough time creating an Apple ID. I tried doing it on my computer, but every time I attempt, I get a message saying "Verification codes can't be sent to this phone number". Although I clicked resend and received the code, when I entered it, I get the error "Your account cannot be created at this time". What can I do to resolve this?

Make sure you're going to account.apple.com to create your account. If you're sure you're there and it's still not working, maybe try a different device just to rule out any issues with your computer.
It sounds like you're running into issues because your iPod Touch is quite old. You might want to make your Apple ID through the website. Just remember to disable any modern security features since those older devices often don't support them. Give it another shot online and see if that helps!
Gotcha, thanks! When I got my iPod, it was already tied to someone else's Apple ID, so that might've messed things up too.
The age of the device definitely plays a role. If the iPod Touch is really outdated, creating the Apple ID directly online might be the only way forward. Just keep it simple on the website and it should get you set up.
Yeah, I mentioned trying that in my post. I eventually accessed an old account from years ago, but my iPod is a 4th gen and it struggles with all this.
I checked, and yep, that’s the site. I managed to get into an old account, but it’s frustrating not being able to set up a new one.
