I'm really confused about why my iPhone won't let me turn the call volume all the way down to zero during phone or video calls. This seems like a simple user control issue. As the owner of the device, I think I should have full control over the audio output.
There are times when it would be useful to silence the other person without ending the call, especially during video calls. In shared spaces, I want to stay connected without the audio leaking. And let's be honest—lowering it to just 'almost' silence isn't the same as total quietness.
Sure, I could mute my mic, switch to silent mode, use headphones, or move my phone away, but none of those solutions really do the trick. Why is there this restriction on iOS? Am I missing something?

It seems Apple decided against allowing the volume to go to zero to prevent accidental misuse. They probably think a lot of users wouldn't want to unintentionally mute their calls. Plenty of folks want just a lower volume without going completely silent, I guess.
I think you're missing some context here. Calls are meant for communication, not for sneaking around. Apple probably wants to ensure that one party can’t just silence the other whenever they feel like it, for ethical reasons. Oh, and try posting the same question in fewer places next time!
Apple just doesn't seem to trust users with those kinds of controls! They might think people will panic and forget how to turn the volume back up, which is kind of silly if you think about it.
Yeah, I saw the same issue raised in different forums. It looks like they really want to avoid any one-way silencing of the call, which could lead to awkward situations. The best workaround is just to put the caller on hold if you need silence.
I totally get your frustration. Android handles it differently, but the idea is likely the same—people would hit zero by mistake. Some folks suggest using your computer for calls instead since you can completely mute the speakers there.
True, it does seem a bit extreme to limit us like this. I wonder if it would really be a big deal if they let us adjust it more freely.

Exactly! Like, if I can lower the volume, I should be able to bring it back up. And yeah, just maybe buy another phone if I really panic.
