Why Can’t My Dell Laptop Boot Linux Mint When It’s First in the Boot Order?

I'm having a frustrating issue with my Dell Inspiron 7640 running Linux Mint. Despite being the only operating system on the computer, when I set the boot order with "ubuntu" listed first, it shows the Dell logo and then just goes dark without booting. However, when I move "ubuntu" to second place in the boot order, after selecting the NVMe drive (which isn't bootable), it finally boots into Linux Mint without any problems. I'm puzzled as to why it only boots correctly when there's a non-bootable device listed before it. Can anyone help me understand what's going on?

Have you checked if Fast Boot is enabled in your BIOS settings? Sometimes, this feature can interfere with the boot process for Linux. Disabling it may solve your problem.

That's a great point! How do I go about checking that?
