Why Can’t My Lenovo Thinkpad Display 4K at 60Hz via HDMI?

I'm having an issue with my Lenovo Thinkpad when trying to connect it to a 4K monitor via HDMI. When I use an HDMI to USB-C cable, I can get a 60Hz refresh rate without any trouble. However, when I connect through HDMI to HDMI, it only allows 30Hz. I've confirmed that my cable supports 4K. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this and get 60Hz working with HDMI?

Just a heads up, if your Thinkpad X1 Carbon 8th gen is confirmed to support HDMI 2.0, you should be good to go. It’s possible that the HDMI port you’re using on the laptop might not be the right one. Check if there’s another HDMI port or try a different cable just to rule out any issues. Good luck!

It sounds like your issue might be related to the HDMI versions. Both HDMI ports need to support HDMI 2.0 for 4K at 60Hz. Check the specs on both your laptop and your monitor to see if they definitely have HDMI 2.0 support.
