My daughter got a free MacBook Pro and did a factory reset followed by updating it, but now she's having trouble accessing certain websites on both Safari and Chrome. Is there a fix for this, or is the laptop just too old to work properly?

If her version is indeed 10.10.5 or earlier, then yeah, she absolutely needs to upgrade. There was a major security certificate issue that affected older macOS versions after 2021, and it's really a must-do to get back online without a hassle.

Good to know! I’ll pass that along.

What version of macOS is she running? Older versions like OS X Yosemite can be problematic for website access due to outdated security certificates. It might be worth checking if she's on 10.11 or earlier, because they’re known to have these issues. If that's the case, upgrading to macOS Big Sur or Monterey via Internet Recovery should help a lot.

She mentioned it's OS X Yosemite. Should she look into that upgrade?
