Why can’t my new Dell laptop boot from my old SSD?

I recently got a Dell Precision 3590 and tried to boot it using my old WD Red SA500 1TB SSD from my previous laptop. This SSD was made in 2022 and has the latest Windows 10 updates. However, I can't seem to boot from it; it's not even showing up in the boot options—only several network boot options are listed. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks! 🙂

It sounds like you might need to do a clean install of Windows on your new laptop. Sometimes, when you switch hardware, the system won’t recognize the old drive properly. Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear!

Yeah, but doing a clean install means I’ll have to reinstall all my programs. Setting everything up again would take forever since I rely on some really old software that's a hassle to configure right.
