Why Can’t My PC Run Games Smoothly on Medium Settings?

I'm having trouble running most games above low settings, and I can't seem to reach 60+ FPS. Here are my specs: I have an RTX 3070 with 8GB of VRAM, an Intel i5-11400F processor, a single stick of 16GB DDR4 RAM, and I'm gaming on a 1440p 180Hz monitor with a 650W power supply. When I play Call of Duty, I have to set everything to low just to get around 80+ FPS, and for games like GTA V, I'm stuck at low/medium settings for about 90 FPS. I can only get decent performance in low-demand games like Garry's Mod or Phasmophobia. What could be the reason I'm unable to run these games on medium or high settings? I've seen others with similar setups getting much higher FPS.

You definitely need to switch to dual channel memory. It makes a big difference in gaming performance. Also, make sure XMP is enabled in your BIOS to get the best speeds from your RAM.

Got it, I’ll check my BIOS settings!

It sounds like you're running into limitations due to your single stick of RAM. Upgrading to dual channel RAM by adding a second 16GB stick (or switching to 2x8GB) could really improve your performance. Single channel memory just doesn't provide the same bandwidth as dual channel, and that's likely what's holding you back.

Thanks for clarifying that!

You're being limited by that single stick of RAM. Even if you had 32GB, running in single channel would still hold you back compared to running dual channel with 16GB x 2 or 8GB x 2. Upgrading can lead to a significant boost in FPS for your games!

Thanks, I suspected it was a minor issue!
