Why did all my SATA drives disappear after changing my power supply?

I recently upgraded my graphics card and had to switch out my power supply unit (PSU) since I needed more power. This meant I unplugged and reconnected all the power cables to my components. While everything seems fine with the GPU, I've noticed that none of my SATA hard drives are showing up. They don't appear in BIOS or in Windows. Here are my specs: ASUS PRIME Z690-P WIFI D4. I've checked the BIOS and confirmed that the SATA controller is enabled, tried connecting the drives to different ports, and re-plugged the cables, but they're still not detected. What could I be doing wrong? I appreciate any suggestions!

Just to clarify, did you use all the new cables that came with your new PSU? Sometimes using cables from an older PSU can lead to issues if they’re not compatible. Also, what specific drives are you trying to connect? That might help isolate the problem.

Funny story! I once used the wrong PSU cables when I was converting my old gaming PC into a NAS. I ended up frying three out of four drives I was trying to use, and it was a nightmare. Just make sure you’re using the right cables! Accidental mistakes can lead to some serious issues.

Do you hear the drives spin up when you power on the PC? If you notice they’re completely silent and don't feel any vibrations when you touch them, it could be a sign they aren’t getting power.
