I've got this older Dell XPS PC running Windows 10, probably around 12 years old. The USB ports have been super finicky for a while now—only 4 out of the 10 ports were working until recently. But a few days ago, after I returned from a short trip, they all just stopped functioning. Now, only one USB port works, and it only recognizes my mouse. I can't even unlock my computer because I can't input my PIN! I've checked the internal connections and tried multiple keyboards without success. The only hint of life I got was when a keyboard lit up once after starting up the PC with it plugged in, but it doesn't register any inputs. I updated several drivers just days before, but everything was fine until this issue popped up. I'm guessing the USB hardware might be toast, but is there anything else I can try before giving up?

Have you tried deleting all the USB drivers in Device Manager? Just restart your PC afterwards, and Windows should reinstall them automatically. It might help reset the connections and get those ports working again!
Yeah, I'm assuming those drivers are listed under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" in Device Manager? Just wanna make sure I’m looking at the right place before I mess with anything.
