Why did I find searches for my address and IP?

Hey everyone, I'm feeling really anxious about something and I could use some help from anyone who understands tech or the internet better than I do. I have OCD and often get paranoid about being watched or stalked, so this is really eating at me. Recently, I searched my home address and IP on Google Trends after seeing a TikTok about it. I found out that my IP address was searched on January 1, 2026, and also during some time in May and June. It hadn't been searched for a while until just a few hours ago when my home address showed up. Google mentioned that it might be bots scanning IPs for marketing or something, but I really need to know what this could mean. I'm just really freaked out and would appreciate any insights on this.

My advice? Try to distract yourself. If you don’t pay for a static IP, it’s likely shared among many users over time. You’re probably sharing your internet space with tons of people, which isn’t as scary as it sounds!

It's understandable to feel alarmed, but the thing to know is that unless you have a static IP, your IP address is likely dynamic. That means it changes periodically, and anyone using your network could have your IP at any point in time. So, someone searching your IP doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a personal threat or concern. You might want to take a breath and try not to worry too much about it.

Thank you for explaining that! But I'm still not sure why someone would look up a specific IP address in the first place. Wouldn't that be odd?

I get why you might feel uneasy, but honestly, if someone were trying to gather information about you using your IP address, they're probably not going to be able to do much harm. Still, if it’s really bothering you, consider getting a VPN or ask your internet provider for a new IP for peace of mind.

Thanks for the suggestion! But what about my home address? Google Trends showed that was searched too, and that’s a bit more concerning.

Just so you know, it’s surprisingly easy for someone to get hold of an IP address. If you’re really concerned, you might want to contact your ISP and ask them to change it for you. It's a simpler fix than you might think.
