I've been a fan of iTerm for years, but today I ran into a problem. When I try to launch the app, I get this pop-up saying: "iTerm.app will damage your computer. You should move it to the Trash. This file was downloaded on an unknown date." This really threw me. I've trusted iTerm for a long time, so I'm wondering if a recent update made it unsafe? Is the "unknown date" part causing this warning? I initially downloaded it years ago, but could an update be the issue? When I tried to bypass the warning to run it anyway, I was met with another alarming message stating that it contains malware. What should I do? I'm on a 2020 Apple M1 running macOS Sonoma 14.8.1.

I managed to solve the problem by reinstalling iTerm. That seemed to do the trick for me!
Yeah, I just got that same alert when I tried to open it too. Definitely seems more than just a fluke.
Right? I had Malwarebytes check, and it found absolutely nothing. Chrome flagged the latest version 3.6.5, but I can still install it via brew without any issues.
Same here! I wonder if there’s something off with the version we’ve all got. I noticed mine is 3.6.2.
You might want to run Malwarebytes to check what's up. It's a pretty solid tool for catching any hidden threats.
