Why Did My GPU Thermal Limit Drop to 57°C?

I've been dealing with an issue for about half a month now where the thermal limit of my GPU keeps dropping to 57°C, even though it should normally be around 75°C. The only way to get it back up to 75°C is to restart my laptop. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? I'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad T14 Gen 1 with an NVidia MX330 GPU.

I get what you’re saying, but I've had my T14 for the past four years, and I’ve used it for both work and gaming without this issue until now. It feels weird for a protection mechanism to change the thermal limit itself instead of adjusting the clock speeds. My GPU rarely reaches the thermal limit, so this sudden drop is puzzling.

Sounds like it could be a safety feature kicking in. Your laptop isn't really built for heavy gaming, so if the GPU is hitting its limit consistently, it might be designed to throttle down to avoid overheating. Typically, thermal limits should allow for some fluctuation, but if it’s constantly close to that threshold, it might trigger this kind of protection.
