Why did my motherboard’s USB ports stop working while the case ports are fine?

I've got an ASUS TUF Z690 motherboard, and I'm experiencing issues with the USB ports on the back. I had a four-port USB hub connected, which included my keyboard, headphones, mouse, and mic. Lately, I noticed that my keyboard would sometimes require unplugging and re-plugging to work, and now, it doesn't turn on at all. When I plug the hub back into the motherboard, the keyboard lights up for a brief moment before shutting off again, suggesting there's some power. However, when I connect the same devices directly to the case USB ports, they work perfectly. I suspect the problem might be either a power draw issue or something related to the hub. How can I fix this?

It sounds like your hub might be the culprit! If you plug your keyboard directly into the motherboard's USB port and it still doesn’t work, something is likely pulling too much power. You mentioned that the lights on your keyboard flash briefly when you connect it, so it may be a power issue with the ports themselves. Maybe try checking for any faulty connections or just using different USB devices directly on the motherboard for troubleshooting.

I agree, it could definitely be the hub causing problems. Make sure it's a USB 3.0 hub and that it's connected to a USB 3.0 port on the motherboard, which usually has blue plastic inside. Also, since your headphones can draw a lot of power, try using them directly in the back ports without the hub. If everything works with the case ports, you might need to reset the connections on the motherboard. Sometimes, a simple power cycle can clear the issue.
