Why did my phone send nearly a million packets in 2 minutes without using an app?

I noticed my phone sent almost a million packets in just a couple of minutes, and I hadn't even opened the app! Initially, I thought my device might be part of a bot network involved in something like a DDoS attack. How can I verify if my phone is compromised or connected to any malicious activity? I'm using an Android 16 with OneUI8, and I have the Google Play system update from August 25 along with a security patch from October 8.

It sounds like there might be some ongoing issues with Microsoft servers that could explain the massive packet transmission. Sometimes, apps sync or send data in the background, especially if they are trying to connect to servers. Just because you didn't open the app doesn’t mean it wasn’t running in the background. I'd keep an eye on it, but it may not be a bot network after all.

Check your app permissions and network activity, just to be sure. If something weird is going on, it’s worth looking into your phone’s security settings to ensure there’s no malware or suspicious applications running. And yeah, make sure you have the latest updates installed. Those can sometimes resolve these kinds of issues.
