Hi everyone! My SSD seems to have failed after less than two years of use. I'm getting indications that it might be broken since Windows won't boot, and it has gone into read-only mode, plus I'm unable to format it. I've already reached out to customer service for a replacement and I'm waiting to hear back. However, I'm curious about what might have caused this issue. I was using a 2TB XPG S70 BLADE, which I thought was a reliable brand. I'm not very tech-savvy, so I'd appreciate understanding how I might prevent this from happening again in the future, if that's even possible. Thanks in advance for any insights!

Have you been defragging your SSD? If so, that's a big no-no as it can damage SSDs quickly. Make sure to RMA it since it's still under warranty.
Just so you know, defragging hasn't been necessary for SSDs in over a decade. Windows does this automatically to manage SSDs, so no worries!
There’s often no clear reason behind SSD failures; they can just fail out of the blue. Your drive was a solid choice, so it’s not like you picked a cheap knockoff. Unfortunately, it might just be bad luck.
SSD failures can happen unexpectedly. I always make sure to back up my data regularly, and I do monthly health checks using tools like CrystalDisk or the manufacturer's software (for me, that's Samsung Magician) to monitor the SSD's write/read stats and lifespan. While you can't always predict an SSD failure, sometimes there are signs before it goes read-only. Keeping your firmware updated is also crucial.
I had a Samsung 870 Evo that failed too, but it was a gradual process. I bought it thinking it was top-of-the-line, especially for work, but then they wouldn't honor the warranty when it went bad. Since that incident, I make sure to back up significant data constantly and I avoid Samsung products now.

I had no idea what defragging even was! I contacted support for the replacement, so fingers crossed it gets sorted.
