I'm having an issue with my Acer laptop where, whenever I play a video, strange green and purple bars appear on the screen. I've kept my laptop updated as much as possible, but these bars are quite annoying. They tend to disappear if I scroll or switch between full screen and windowed modes, but they don't happen consistently with every video. The weird part is that they even show up when I mirror the screen to another device, so I'm pretty sure it isn't a problem with the laptop's screen itself.

It sounds like you might be dealing with a graphics driver issue. Have you checked to make sure your graphics drivers are fully updated? Sometimes, if they’re outdated, it can cause those weird visual artifacts when playing videos. Also, you might want to test playing videos in a different media player to see if the problem persists there too.
