I've been having a strange issue where I'm getting calls from my friend, but he insists he never called me. My phone shows it as an incoming call, and his does too. We think someone might be calling us both at the same time and possibly listening in on our conversation. I figured that couldn't be true, but now I'm not so sure. We're both using iPhones—how could this be happening?

It’s definitely strange! Phone records are usually pretty reliable, so it’s worth checking the call logs if you can. If you both see ‘incoming calls’ but are calling each other, it sounds like something odd is going on. Just keep an eye on it, and maybe try to document exactly when these calls happen.
With how telephony works nowadays, especially over the internet, it’s actually possible for someone to set up a situation where they connect two calls and listen in. They could create a sort of three-way call without you both realizing it. That might be what’s happening with you two.
That’s wild! How could they even manage to do that? Is there an app or something for it?
That’s what I thought too, but it’s bizarre since it happens consistently. It’s almost like we’re being messed with!
