Why Does ChatGPT Give Inconsistent Answers?

I've been using ChatGPT for a while and honestly, I'm pretty frustrated with it. One major issue is that it gives contradictory answers. I've noticed that when I ask the same question multiple times, I often get different responses each time. Some of the advice seems good, but it can completely change later on.

For instance, I once asked for a concept explanation and got a clear answer, but when I asked again, it was totally different. This inconsistency happens across various topics—science, relationships, even simple facts. It makes me wonder what I can actually trust. If it keeps changing its answers, how do I know which ones to take seriously? Is there a way to get more reliable answers or is it just hit or miss with ChatGPT? Has anyone else experienced this? How do you deal with the confusion when trying to get clear info from it?

ChatGPT isn’t perfect, but honestly, that’s true for a lot of information out there. The key is to verify whatever it tells you instead of just taking it at face value. It works better as a creative tool than as your go-to for cold hard facts, in my opinion.

Yeah, I’d say trust is out the window—if it really matters, do your own research! Ask ChatGPT for guidance on where to find what you need, but always double-check! Just treat it like a starting point.

I’ve noticed that all AI models have this problem with inconsistent info. Right now, they should just be seen as tools to gather some ideas. Verification is still necessary.

I usually check information with other AI models like Grok or Claude. Just recently, I asked ChatGPT about a theory it seemed confident about, but it turned out that both Grok and Claude had no info on it at all. ChanGPT sometimes just makes things up, so I’d say verify before you trust.

As for using it, I’ve found it helpful for simple math, and if you ask it to check its own info or provide sources, it can be more reliable. But remember, it’s not foolproof. I triple-check things—first with GPT, then I check my facts with Grok. Finally, I always read the sources myself to ensure everything checks out.
