Why Does My Game Feel Less Smooth Than 240 FPS on a 240Hz Monitor?

I've been playing on a 240Hz monitor, and my FPS is consistently around 240, but the gameplay doesn't feel smooth at all—more like what I would expect at 140 FPS. I've tried everything I can think of, like optimizing settings and updating drivers. My setup includes an Intel Core i5 14600KF, an RTX 4060, a Gigabyte B760 DDR4 motherboard, and 16GB of RAM. Anyone know why it feels so choppy?

Have you checked which game you're playing? Sometimes, even if your FPS counter displays 240, the actual experience can feel different. It could help to confirm your FPS using a built-in FPS display or logging feature to see if it fluctuates during gameplay.

I'm playing Fortnite, and the FPS counter says 240, but it just feels so off.

It's possible that your monitor might be struggling to keep up with its own refresh rate. A lot of monitors can display 240Hz but may not handle fast-paced games very effectively. You might want to look into how well your specific monitor performs under pressure.

I have the AOC C32G2ZE with FreeSync, should I consider getting a different one?
