I'm noticing a significant decrease in gaming performance when I run games on Linux, whether it's through Steam or just playing Minecraft. My system specs are as follows: Intel i5 4590, Intel HD Graphics 4600, 10 GB of RAM, and an SSD for storage. I dual boot with Windows, and I've been using Linux Mint XFCE. Some people say my integrated graphics card is too weak, but I get higher FPS on Windows, which seems off to me. Should I consider switching to a different Linux distribution? I'm a fan of Linux, so I want to make it work.

With your Intel integrated graphics being around 10 years old, I doubt it's a driver issue you can fix easily. Many Linux games, especially Steam titles, can have varying performance levels, but Minecraft usually runs better under Linux. Can you share what version of Minecraft you're using? Also, are you running it via Java or another launcher?
It sounds like a driver issue might be at play here. The Intel HD 4600 doesn't handle newer Vulkan and OpenGL features very well, which could explain the performance drop, especially with more demanding games.
Are you using Wine to run your games? If you're dual booting, do you see similar performance on Windows? You might want to check your RAM usage too—your setup with 10 GB could be a tight fit when running Linux and games simultaneously.
Totally! With those specs, jumping to a gaming-specific distro may not yield much improvement.

Yeah, I feel you. But it's tough to change drivers on Linux. Do you think switching distributions would help at all?
