Why does my GPU ramp up to 100% fans during black screen issues?

I'm experiencing random black screens while gaming on my ITX build. When this happens, my monitor loses signal and the GPU fans go to 100%. The system stays powered on, but I have to force a reboot to get everything back up. Sometimes the display returns after a reboot, sometimes it doesn't unless I unplug and replug the monitor. The Event Viewer only shows a Kernel-Power 41 error.

Here's what I've already tried: updating BIOS and chipset, reseating the GPU and riser, doing a clean GPU driver reinstall using DDU, swapping DisplayPort cables, trying different PCIe modes (Auto, Gen3, Gen4), monitoring temperatures (which are normal), and reseating the PSU and GPU cables.

My specs are: AMD 9800X3D, Gigabyte X870I Aorus Pro Ice, MSI RTX 5070 Ti, NR200P V2 case, ASUS Loki 850W SFX power supply, Cooler Master PCIe 4.0 riser, G9 OLED 240Hz monitor, and 32GB of DDR5-6000 RAM.

Can anyone help me figure out what's causing this black screen and fan ramping issue? I'm really frustrated trying to diagnose it.

Sounds like a tough issue! Have you checked if any recent updates to Windows or any new hardware changes might have triggered this? I dealt with something similar on my setup with an older AM4 motherboard and RTX 3080. It drove me nuts. I ended up bumping up the RAM voltage a tiny bit and even ended up taking it all apart to remove RGB components. Sometimes loose cables or faulty RGB setups can lead to power issues. Just a thought!

You might want to try flashing a new vBIOS for your GPU. I’ve seen this help with similar symptoms before. Just make sure you follow the instructions carefully!

I actually tried that already, but it didn’t solve the problem.
