Why Does My GPU Spike to 100% When Playing Games?

I'm experiencing a major issue: whenever I launch a game on Steam, my GPU maxes out at 100%, which really hinders my performance. I have already reinstalled all my drivers to no avail.

The main culprit seems to be that Desktop Window Manager is consuming over 50% of resources while I'm gaming. I've read online that this might indicate I have a bitminer on my PC, but that doesn't explain why it only occurs when I open a game.

I've even been advised to reinstall Windows 11, which I'd really prefer not to do.

Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this? It's so excessive that just taking a screenshot while I'm gaming takes an excruciatingly long time, making multitasking impossible despite my games running fine.

It's not uncommon for GPUs to run at full capacity while gaming since they’re designed to deliver the best performance. But if you're also experiencing major lag issues like slow screenshots, try enabling VSync. This setting helps cap your GPU's output to only what your monitor can handle. You can also reduce your graphics settings or cap your framerate in your GPU's settings to lessen the strain. Typically, you shouldn't worry about high GPU usage unless it’s negatively impacting your gaming performance.

Yeah, but the real problem is that he can’t do anything else on his computer while gaming! It’s like his system freezes up completely. That's definitely not normal!
