Why does my HDMI splitter lower monitor resolution?

I've got two monitors connected to an HDMI splitter, but I'm facing a problem where both displays are set to the resolution of the smaller monitor. One of my monitors has a significantly higher resolution than the other, and I want to know how to fix this so that each monitor displays at its own native resolution. Any suggestions?

Have you tried using two separate display cables instead of going through a splitter? Sometimes splitters can limit the resolution to the lowest monitor. If you could connect each monitor directly to your laptop, it might solve the problem.

I don’t understand what you mean. I thought the splitter was necessary for both monitors.

Using a splitter is common, but it can cause resolution issues. Direct connections are generally more reliable for higher resolutions.

It sounds like your setup might not be ideal for handling different resolutions. When using an HDMI splitter, you often can only get the lowest common resolution across all connected displays. Make sure your splitter is actually a USB-C dock that supports multiple displays with their native resolutions. Also, knowing the make and model of both the splitter and your monitors could help narrow down the issue.
