Why Does My Internet Slow Down When I Play Games?

I'm experiencing major internet slowdowns when I'm running high-bandwidth software like Apex or Battlefield. For example, when I try to stream on Discord while gaming, my speed takes a nosedive. I've even tried doing a Speedtest, and it shows terrible results too. I did a netsh winsock reset, and it helped for a while—my speeds would go back to around 500 Mbps download and 400 Mbps upload—but then, after playing for a short time, it drops to 8 Mbps download and 0.22 Mbps upload. Any ideas on what's going on?

Are you on wired or wireless? Generally, online games don’t use much bandwidth—streaming does, but even that shouldn’t drop you below 20 Mbps at most. So it’s strange your speeds are tanking like that.

I'm using ethernet, so that shouldn’t be the issue. I tried the command prompt fix, and it worked for a day. I could play Apex for about 10 minutes smoothly, but then it dropped again. I just finished with Battlefield 6, and it was down to about 8 Mbps while gaming. Once I stopped, it went back to around 500 Mbps.
