Why Does My Internet Speed Drop After a Speed Test?

I've got a 300 Mbps internet plan from my ISP, and every time I run a speed test, it consistently shows that speed. However, I've noticed that the actual speed of my Wi-Fi only reaches that level during the test. Once the test is over, the speed drops significantly. What can I do to ensure that my internet performs at that speed consistently?

It sounds like you're experiencing what's called 'speed test optimization.' Your ISP might prioritize your connection during speed tests, which can lead to those higher numbers. Outside of the tests, various factors can affect your speed, like network congestion or interference. Try running tests at different times of the day to see if there's a pattern or consider checking for any devices that might be hogging your bandwidth.

I had a similar issue, and switching to a wired connection really helped me. Wi-Fi can sometimes be unreliable due to walls or other electronic devices interfering with the signal. If you can, connect your device directly to the modem with an Ethernet cable and see if your speeds are more stable that way.
