Why Does My Laptop Use Integrated Graphics After Unplugging and Plugging Back In?

I've been having an issue with my laptop where, after I unplug it from the charger and then plug it back in while playing a game, it seems to switch to the integrated graphics card. The graphics quality drops significantly, even on a game like Neverwinter Nights. The only way to fix it is to restart my laptop, which is really frustrating. I've checked all my power settings and everything is set to maximum performance. Is there any software that can show me which graphics card is being used while I'm gaming? Any advice would be appreciated!

Hey! It sounds like your laptop might be switching graphics due to power management settings. Make sure to share your system specs for better troubleshooting. Also, try using HWinfo; it can give you a detailed look at which GPU is active while you're gaming.

Thanks for the tip! I definitely need to check my specs. I just know that it drops performance when switching.

One workaround is to always plug your laptop in before you start the game. If you unplug while gaming, it often defaults to integrated graphics which can cause issues. Just a heads up, the power settings can really impact performance if they aren’t fully optimized.

I usually unplug it before I start the game, go to another room, and then plug it back in before launching. I didn't realize this could cause the switch!
