Why does my laptop’s Wi-Fi suddenly disappear, causing me to lose internet connection?

I recently got an HP laptop running Windows 11 to replace my old one that died. I'm using it for school, but I also like to game. Unfortunately, I've been experiencing issues where the Wi-Fi completely disconnects while I'm working or gaming, whether I'm on my school network or my home Wi-Fi. In the bottom-right pop-up menu, the Wi-Fi section just vanishes during these moments, and it takes about 20 seconds to come back, which is really frustrating because it disrupts whatever I'm doing. I've verified that the Wi-Fi itself is stable since others around me with their devices aren't having any issues. I use a lap desk and make sure not to overcharge it to prevent overheating. My boyfriend thinks the issue might be with the laptop's internal network chip, suggesting I should get an external USB network adapter for a more stable connection. I'm looking for advice on what might be causing this problem and how I can fix it!

Have you tried reinstalling the Wi-Fi driver? Sometimes driver issues can cause random disconnections like what you're experiencing. It might help stabilize your connection!

How do I go about reinstalling the Wi-Fi driver?

I had similar problems with an older laptop. It turned out that the Wi-Fi adapter was on its last legs. I ended up getting a USB Wi-Fi adapter, and it solved all my connection issues. An Ethernet cable is also a solid option if you're okay with a wired connection!

Can you recommend a good USB adapter? I'm not sure what to look for.
