Why Does My New Monitor Keep Flickering While Playing a Game?

I'm having an issue with my new monitor where it keeps turning on and off when I play a specific game. The game shows a refresh rate of 3.5Hz in its settings, but my monitor is supposed to support 60Hz. Shouldn't it handle games like this without a problem? This flickering also happens when I'm full screening a video on my browser. The game in question is called Full Metal Daemon Muramasa. Any ideas on what's going on?

Not sure where you’re getting that 3.5Hz value from. Most monitors won’t support such a low refresh rate. Just because your monitor is 60Hz doesn't mean it can handle every fixed refresh rate; many only support a few. Double-check those settings!

The 3.5Hz info comes from the game launcher—there's a line that states the specs of the game. It's pretty old, having come out in 2009.
