Why does my PC crash when I join multiplayer games?

I'm really stumped by this issue. My graphics card seems to be causing my computer to crash only when I try to join multiplayer games, and I have no idea how an internet connection could impact it. Single-player games run smoothly without any problems, but the moment I invite a friend or join an online session, my screen gets all glitchy with colorful pixels and the whole system freezes. I have to power down completely to get it working again. This happens with every game I try, including titles like Powerwash Simulator, Fortnite, and Arc Raiders, but I can play them just fine in single-player mode. I know it's the graphics card since it was previously owned by a family member who faced the same issue. Browsing the internet works perfectly fine, which adds to my confusion. The only game that seems to work is Necesse, which I guess is less demanding. I'm going crazy trying to figure this out!

It's definitely strange, especially since you're noticing it especially with more graphic-intensive games. You might explore underclocking options - have you thought about using MSI Afterburner? It’s a user-friendly way to tweak things and should help if overheating is causing your crashes.

I agree, underclocking could help! It's odd that such a simple game like Powerwash Simulator would push it to the limit. If your 2080Ti is getting overloaded, you should see a difference with clock adjustments.

It sounds like your VRAM might be the culprit. Even though it seems odd that multiplayer would be the breaking point, it can be more demanding and could be heating up your system enough to cause crashes. You might want to consider underclocking your graphics card or reapplying thermal paste to help with cooling.
