Why Does My PC Keep Restarting After Removing the GPU?

I've been having a frustrating issue with my PC where it just keeps turning on and off repeatedly. I've tried a bunch of things to fix it, like taking out one of the RAM sticks, cleaning the internals, removing the CMOS battery, and even putting new thermal paste on the CPU. Nothing seemed to work until I took out my graphics card (GPU); after that, my PC actually ran without restarting. Now I'm left wondering if I need to get a new GPU after just three years of use.

I can't say for sure without knowing your specs, but if your GPU is only 3 years old, it might still be under warranty. It's worth checking!

It sounds like your GPU might be damaged and needs to be replaced. Alternatively, consider that a failing power supply unit (PSU) could be the culprit too. If you have another GPU of similar wattage and it causes the same restart issue, you might want to replace the PSU instead.

Have you tried putting the GPU back in? Sometimes, dust can mess with the contacts or it can come loose. There are two pins on either end of the connector that need to be seated properly to ensure a good connection. If those aren’t connected well, it can cause issues like yours.
