Hey everyone, I'm having a bit of an issue with my PC. Whenever I try to shut it down, the process seems to begin normally—like the screen goes black and the keyboard and mouse lights turn off. However, the PC itself keeps its lights on and the fans continue to spin. The only way I can fully turn it off is by holding down the power button for a few seconds. Has anyone experienced something similar or know what might be causing this?

This has happened to me across a few different computers. I found that sometimes my main monitor would ignore the shutdown signal, even when everything else seemed off. If you have multiple monitors, check if your primary monitor is still getting a signal from your PC—setting it to a different display might help.
I’d also recommend turning off hibernation in Windows. It could be miscommunicating the shutdown state to your motherboard. Just open the Command Prompt as an admin and run the command `powercfg /hibernate off`. And don’t forget to update your BIOS if that doesn’t solve the issue!
It sounds like it could be a BIOS power setting issue or the fast startup feature. You might want to check your ERP settings in the BIOS and make sure fast boot is disabled.
You could do a simple diagnostic test. Try booting from an Ubuntu live CD and then open a terminal. Run the command `shutdown -h now` to see if the same issue happens.
Yeah, I've dealt with this too, and it can be pretty frustrating. I can't pinpoint the cause either, but it's good to know I'm not alone!
I already turned off fast startup.
