Why Does My PC Keep Shutting Down After a Few Hours of Gaming?

I'm having an ongoing issue with my setup that's become really frustrating. I have a Ryzen 9 7950X, an RX 7900 XTX Sapphire, and a Taichi X670E motherboard. My computer randomly shuts down, especially after playing games for 2-3 hours. Although the CPU temperature spikes occasionally, it generally operates within safe limits. I stress-tested it using Cinebench and Adrenaline software multiple times, and it didn't shut down during those tests. However, when it does shut down, I have to unplug it to reset, which makes me think the motherboard might be protecting it, assuming it's overheating. My room isn't hot and I've already RMA'd my CPU cooler, the Ryzen chip, motherboard, GPU, and PSU. I even installed a thermal light CPU holder for better cooling and have all my fans set to max speed for cooling. Some days I can game without issues, but then I hit a wall with shutdowns when playing certain games, like the Battlefield alpha test. This has been happening for over a year now, and I'm starting to think it might not just be related to the alpha games. Any ideas on what I might do?

It sounds like the shutdown is actually triggered by the PSU's physical protection circuit. This can trip and reset when you unplug it. If it were the motherboard causing the issue, you’d usually be able to restart it without unplugging. It's pretty rare for the motherboard to cause this sort of problem. I’d recommend trying a different, possibly larger, PSU from a new manufacturer. Just make sure to buy from a place that allows returns in case it doesn't fix the issue.

I’m using an ASUS ROG Thor 850. I’ll check online to see if others have had issues with it. My computer ran fine until I upgraded the GPU, so maybe that’s it.

Have you tried plugging your PC into a different power outlet? At this point, with everything else replaced, that could be the next step to isolate the issue.

I actually tried it at several different houses in different cities; only one city worked fine out of the four I tested.
