Why does my PC keep spamming ‘cv’ and how can I fix it?

I'm having a weird issue where my PC keeps spamming the keys 'cv' constantly, and the only way I can stop it is by restarting my computer. It's definitely not a hardware issue since my keyboard works fine. I'm wondering if there's something like a sticky key feature enabled or maybe an application causing this problem. Whenever the spamming occurs, I have to frantically hit Alt + F4 to shut it down, because even the start menu closes immediately when I open it. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

You might want to disconnect your keyboard and try using the on-screen keyboard for a bit. If it stops spamming, then your keyboard might be the culprit after all. Just a heads up, there’s usually nothing else hardware-related that can override a physical keyboard like this, unless it's something sticking.

I have to disagree a bit. There are programs that can disable keyboard inputs or emulate keystrokes easily. It might not be what's happening here, but it's definitely something to consider—especially if you're using software that modifies keyboard behavior.

Sounds like it could be a macro that you accidentally triggered. I had a similar issue before, and it turned out that I had set a macro that would start typing random stuff if I hit a certain button by mistake. Definitely worth checking your macro settings if you have any.

Good point! I didn’t even think of that as a possibility. I only use macros in gaming software like League or WoW, so I didn’t consider other programs having them too. I’ll keep that in mind for future issues.

Just because the keys themselves are fine doesn’t completely rule out a hardware issue. There are lots of things on the hardware side that could be going wrong. A quick way to troubleshoot is to try another keyboard and see if the problem persists.
